As I huge fan of the series I was wondering if anyone knows where it is possible to view the scripts from the show on the net?

Been searching everywhere but can't find anything - but in the immortal words of Fletch - "Don't let the b******s grind you down!"

Cheers.

I found out what I was looking for, what ever happened to Richard Beckinsale. Now I know a heart attack at only 31 in 1979, 7 years before I was born.

The full series of Porridge are playing here in New Zealand now on our UKTV pay channel. The episodes are hilarious, and it is a pleasure to watch such classical and brilliant British Comedy. Ronnie Barker was a genius without doubt, and it is great to see such humour still popular today. The main difference betwwen American humour and British humour is that British humour never apologises for the subject matter - Porridge is a great example of this - may it live for ever!

I have the Porridge Series and Christmas Special but would love the first episode Prisoner and Escort and Going Straight. I am here in Singapore, anyone got any suggestions of where I can get these and if they exist on video and DVD. Love the programme, just wish they had made more! Two teenage daughters hooked too.

I just wanted to say that Curtis Watts is using your site to research and ask me silly questions about Porridge and he'd better get on with some work and not waste time like this! I know more about the episodes than he ever will so he'd best concede defeat now. In fact he's rubbish. Ya boo sucks !

Helena, Going Sraight is on UK Gold starting tomorrow night (April 27). I only found out tonight it existed. Hoping to try get it on video. In the episodes section it says Prisoner & Escort is available on the series 2 DVD but I have that and it isn't on it.

Note from porridge Webmaster. On the Series 2 DVD of Porridge, the episode "Prisoner & Escort" appears in the special features menu. Here is the proof:

Thank you soooooo much for the recording of "free inside" what a song, I am a total fletch fanatic! =), re; helena, I watched Porridge growing up and it was only recently I even heard about Going Straight, I had to have it, I watched it with dread "how could it be as good?", after one episode, I had the same warm feeling, it was like I had more fletch I never knew existed, like he'd never been away, altho slightly bleaker, fletch is still fletch, with godber, mclaren, mackay and ingrid in episodes it almost makes up for not having the rest of the nick with him, and watch out for nicholas lyndhurst (superb as young raymond), and btw gr8 site, i will be back =)

Fantastic website. Can someone tell me which episode the following dialogue was in:

[Godber] - You really get up my goat sometimes Fletcher.

[Fletch] - No Godber, I may get your goat, I might get up your nose, I may even get on your wick, but I do not get up your goat.

I love that line. Genius.

Note from porridge Webmaster. Those lines were taken from the movie of Porridge.

Replying to Helena's question, Going Straight should be shown again at some point on UKTV Gold at some point it has been repeated a few times since the Porridge @ 30 weekend. Also, you can buy it on DVD in shops for as little as £9! Its good, but not as brilliant as Porridge but then again nothing ever can be can it? It's cool to know that there r other young fans who adore Ronnie Barker and Porrigde! I'm only 14 meself, and all me friend dnt watch porridge and a lot of them only know Ronnie B as one of the two Ronnies and @ that they dnt even kno which one he is!

I am 12 years old but I have loved Porridge since I saw my very first episode a few years ago and I think that, along with Only Fools and Horses, it is one of the best programmes ever made. Ronnie Barker is a brilliant actor but it's a pity there aren't more episodes. I enjoyed the Porridge @ 30 weekend on UKTV Gold, but I have never seen Going Straight as i don't think they are showing reruns of it on any channel. This website is good, but it would be better if it had a few Quizzes and Games to brighten it up!

I'm 17 but I discovered Porridge on UKGold around a year ago. My two favourite programs are Porridge and Auf Wiedersehen Pet, and I was surprised to find out they're written by the same people.

I have a question: Does Ronnie Barker do the voiceover ("Norman Stanley Fletcher, you have pleaded guilty to the charges...") at the start of Porridge?

Note from Porridge Webmaster - In answer to Ryan's question the answer is yes, it is Ronnie Barker sentencing himself.

I am a long standing fan of Ronnie Barker in his many different shows. So this site was a treat. I don't know if many readers know, but Ronnie did a half hour show with Roy Castle (as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy), it was a brilliant tribute to Stan and Ollie. We published and interview with Ronnie in a recent Laurel and Hardy Magazine.

I was glued to the Porridge @ 30 weekend over Christmas at my parents' house (they have digital, I don't!). Never watched a whole episode before this only being 23 (think I may have seen a few in the late eighties), but it beats all the other present day sitcoms hands down. The writing is magnificent, and the acting and delivery by Barker and Beckinsale bring the humour to life. Never knew until I visited this site that it is available on DVD, so that's a definite buy for me. Great website, very enjoyable too.

In response to Martin's comments about repeated gags I can think of a couple. In the episode "New Faces Old Hands" when Fletcher is asked to fill the sample flask his reply is "what, from here?". Clement and La Frenais were involved in scripting the Bond film "Never Say never Again" and Connery's Bond has the same line.

There is also a line from Barker who says "Of course I trust you Godber. Besides, when you were all in the showers I went through all your gear." This line was also used by Oz in Auf Wiedesehen Pet.

Does anyone know of any others?

Caught one afternoon of Porridge @ 30 over Christmas. BRILL!! I've been a fan since the beginning (When I was 10!!) So I can confirm that the comedy stands up as a child and an adult. The Movie is by far the best ever TV spin off film. As mentioned on the website, some ideas for the movie were "lifted" from the series. However, there is a scene in one episode between Warren and Fletch where they refer to a fellow inmate "Lugless Douglas . Clement and La Frenais also wrote a scene in an episode of "Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads" where Bob and Terry discuss an old school friend called Lugless Douglas . I know this makes me a bit of a dork, but does anyone know of any other recycled gags!

Hello Boss. Came across this site when I needed to find Biggins character name and was surprised to find I share his birthday. Nothing Lukewarm about that! Great work, have always loved the show and not just because of the name conection or the fact that I eventually lived in Muswell Hill for five years. Thinking of that shouldn't there be a statue of Fletch situated there? Cheers Boss.

I got all the DVDs for Christmas (including the Christmas specials and the movie). I'd always preferred Open All Hours, but now I've spent days watching non-stop Porridge my opinion has changed! I'm now a fully fledged Beckinsale fan, so I'll be buying the complete set of Rising Damp as well. My favourite Porridge moment is probably when Fletcher and Godber break back into the prison in the movie. Fantastic stuff.
