Excellent site. Ronnie Barker made us all laugh in some way or another. I'm sure that everyone who reads this will remember some series or other that he has written or appeared in which has made them laugh till their sides hurt. He will be missed but not forgotten his comic geninus will live on for a very long time yet.

Was saddened by the news of Ronnie Barker's death on Tuesday, a great loss to us all. Porridge my all time favourite. His genius and fellow cast members cheer up any dull day and not to forget some cracking dramtic moments too. Came home after work and watched season 1, and laughed. Remember "Don't let the Ba****ds grind you down" next time work gets too much (works for me!)

I, like many others, was very saddened by the news of the death of the great Ronnie Barker.
He was my favourite comic actor and 'Porridge' is my favourite sitcom.
I have all 21 episodes on DVD and watch them regularly.
Ronnie was such a genius that it is hard to believe that Norman Stanley Fletcher and Arkwright wre played by the same actor.
If further proof were needed of the man's popularity, then it was provided by the enormous success of his return with Ronnie C. for the Two Ronnies Sketchbook.
Rest in peace, Ronnie.
You will be sadly missed.

Thanks for all the times you made me chuckle. I have watched the Porridge film dozens of times and still laugh out loud at the part were Ronnie is singing at the begining and Mackay tells him to form a Slade Prison glee club, and with perfect timing and wit he replys "GLEE" whilst looking around. You will be missed
God bless

I was so sad to hear the news about Ronnie B, like Eric Morcombe before him, he will be greatly missed. There is very little left to rave about in comedy any more, Ronnie B proved that being nice, respectful, polite and humble, ment that you don't have to shout from the roof tops to get noticed. He was a A++++ celebrity not the D ---'s of today.

Ronnie Barker is simply incomparable. His comic performances in The Two Ronnies and Open All Hours were outstanding but for me his towering achievement was his characterisation in Porridge. It is one of those very few TV series which can be watched time and again because of it's superb comic scripts, clever plots and magnificent cast.
But despite his eternal modesty and generosity in letting his talented supporting cast have their glory, Ronnie Barker's skill and artistry, both as a comic and straight actor, is shown to it's utmost in Porridge.
A seemingly modest, unassuming and throughly likable person off screen, the amount of tributes paid to Ronnie B stands as to how much respect, love, thanks and affection he was regarded by his peers, colleagues and the British Public. The best of good nights to you Ronnie.

Like the rest of the nation, we all feel as if we've lost a friend. What a marvellous fund of TV and film coverage we have of Ronnie's extra special talents as a comedy actor over the years, we all have our favourite's (mine being the 2 Ronnies as cleaning ladies using utensils as instruments!) but Porridge stands in the pathenon of the greats (with Richard Beckinsale a great loss in his prime), so many of Ronnie's roles were true to life and brought so much enjoyment, many can recite excerpts from scripts and TV shows. As a previous comment, Ronnie is sure to be making those in heaven laugh/giggle and he has left us a rich legacy of humour for future generations to study.

Whether it was Porridge or any other project Ronnie Barker was involved in, you could always get a laugh from the innuendo that never got crude, and often the word play was marvellous. Porridge especially, though the other programmes had some, showed a keen eye for observing the real dilemmas and problems we all face. A Prison? A pronounced stammer? Short sightedness? Who else would have carried these off and not been subject to a barrage of criticism? Thank you Mr. Barker, Thank you for the laughs.

There was very little love from my father as a boy and the only time we shared any real emotion was any time Ronnie was on the tv. We both loved this comic genius and he gave us a bond which lasts to this day. Even to this day I watch one of his shows at least once a week and have his famous "four candles" sketch on dvd which I watch each time I feel a little low (good advice to anyone suffering depression!!) you will be sadly missed but will be remembered forever by my family and will always bring a smile to my face when I think of you. Very very sad to hear about the loss of Ronnie. I am a big Porridge fan and Open All Hours. I have met the man at Pinewood Studios when I was working there and David Jason and he was a wonderful person god bless him.

Have just heard the news & am desperate to send my sympathies to Mrs Barker, Ronnie C. & David Jason in particular. I'm crying as it is, but all I've done is grow up with Ronnie - in every shape & form!- on my TV screen, & watch all repeats ad infinitum. My heart goes out to those who knew him personally. At least we can be sure that Rommie will be with us forever. 4 candles at the ready here - or otherwise some fork handles from my tool shed!

England is now a weaker Nation for the loss of such a great comic actor and writer, Genius is word used to much these days but to describe Mr Barker as a genius is just not enough, I will forever have a warm place in my heart for this wonderful man. God Bless Ronnie and may your comedy live on forever.

The world has lost a truly great performer today.
I will always consider Porridge Ronnie Barker's best work. Not only is it one of the best comedies it also has moments of great emotion in it as well. This was down to the actors in the show. Sadly yet another actor from this show is no longer with us.
I'm sure Ronnie is up there now catching up with Richard about old times.
All the best Ronnie.

We lost a treasure today, the finest gem in comedy. Thank you Mr Barker for giving us years of the finest comedy ever to be produced. It may be a final goodnight from him but your comedy will reign years into the future.
As a man of comedy it is very unlikely that you would like this to be a sad occation so on that note "Dont forget your OXO tin Ronnie!".
Our Condolences and love to the Barker family.

Ronnie Barker passed away on October 3rd 2005 aged 76. British comedy has lost a lengendary actor and his talent and wit will be sorely missed. Hopefully this website will continue to run and pay tribute to a great actor's amazing achievements and life! I personally feel that the likes of Ronnie Barker will never be seen in comedy again, and he was a one-off talent with so much to give. RIP the legend, thoughts are with his family at this time.
