An excellent programme - they don't make 'em how they used to.  All the best to all the cast.  Keep out of trouble in Heaven, Godber!!!

I think this website is Good

Good Site dedicated to easily the most beautifully scripted and acted British Sitcom ever.  Delighted to see UK Gold devoting a weekend to all things Porridge. Keep up the good work!!!

As per other comments it was great to finally see Going Straight (too young to really remember the original screenings).  Although it lacked some of the really great characters which were in endless supply in Porridge, GS still has some class lines/moments and in comparison with today's "comedies" it must be up there with the best of them.

Are there any plans for BBC to repeat the 2003 christmas special "Life Beyond The Box: Norman Stanley Fletcher"?  As I didn't get to see it.

I have been watching Porridge @ 30 yesterday and today.  and I have had Going Straight on video for a few years, my favourite actor in the show was Fulton Mackay, and my favourite episodes were "A Night In" "A Day Out" and Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais are by far the best comedy writers on the planet.

@ last! I have seen Going Straight!  It was great, not as good as Porridge, but nothing ever could be.  It was such a pity it was only six episodes as it kinda abruptly ended.  So does anyone know if this is now going 2 b a regular thing showing Going Straight on UK Gold or was it just a one off?

Watching Porridge @ 30, I forgot how brilliant a programme and we have nothing like it today. They are a brilliant writing team and the cast is superb, shame that Richard Beckinsale had a heart attack.  More Series would have been nice too see.

Dear Ian, it's me Leon Bigland, on the Internet on the 11.07.04 I was searching through DVDs when I came across Porridge the Christmas specials and Going Straight that are going to be released on the 4th of October 2004 which is just in time for Christmas which means I can get them.  Anyway as soon as I saw this I got the shakes probably due to over excitment, anyway I suddenly remember visiting your site and I thought I'd just let you know seens as your a BBC comedy fan like myself.  I was a bit peed off when I saw that Simon Ladd had informed you first but anyway you know now.  I'll check in to your site and let you know what I think of them as I don't recall seeing the Christmas specials of Porridge that look good because one episode is on the subject of them brewing alcohol which was a thing women prisoners did on Bad Girls which is a good show.

The only irish actor I can think of, who answers the description given is that of the actor who played Albert in Robins Nest

Excellent, I'm 22, I watched Porridge with my grandma ages ago and loved it, many years on I've just bought all the DVD copies, and got a lot more of the jokes, Ronnie Barker is the best.  Best family fun you could ever have.  FACT.

I think this website is Excellent

If only every classic comedy website was as good as this!  There's no BS, no gossip etc.  It sticks to the webmaster's remit which is to keep to the facts and keep the fans fully informed of latest developments. It is a sad reflection of the BBC's current output that virtually no recent comedy attracts the same degree of affection that Porridge still attracts from folk of all ages.  Other than the all too necessary innuendo that was prevalent in the episode "A Quiet Night In" the whole series was totally suitable viewing for the whole family as it worked on so many different levels. Forget Fools and Horses.  Porridge was the real McCoy in as far as it tackled many issues that affect the incarcerated male but with much subtlety and humour.  Fletch, Godber and McKay will live in the hearts of minds of us all forever!  This comedy was script and cast driven and that is what makes it virtually unique.  I shall say no more.  Just keep watching the DVDs, TV repeats and audio tapes.  The fun continues to this day!

In response to Sonny and Jade's comments I think a poll is a good idea.  Watch this space! In response to Judith's comments according to the book "On Set!" written by Steve Clark, Slade Prison in the opening credits was the front of a council depot in St Albans.  It was originally a prison apparently.  At the time the book was published (1999) it was the headquarters of mineral water company, Highland Spring.
