Recently on a train back to London, the steward asked if I'd like a drink, G&T said I, large one sir the steward asked, mind your own business said I. A great line from a top three sitcom.

Is it worth adding to John Rutland's bio that he appeared with Ronnie Barker in 'Spanner's Eleven' (one of the '7 of 1' series), 'Open All Hours' and was a regular in 'The Two Ronnies'?

Hi everyone, fantastic website. My question to all of you is this....I can't remember seeing any scenes with both Mackay & Grouty in, can you? I have always wondered how Mackay would treat Grouty

Excellent website with informative sections on one of the most enduring and funniest TV shows of all time. Porridge will always be funny to any viewer, whether it is the 1970s, 1990s, 2010s etc.

In my opinion Porrridge is right up there with Only fools and horses, and Fawlty Towers as one of it not the best Sitcom ever to be on British tele. Its superbly written combining comedy, and at times pathos, with great charcterisation. The performances of the main protagonist, Ronnie Barker, Richard Beckinsale, Fulton Mckay and Brian Wilde together with supporting cast including many who went on to enjoy huge success in later roles,is second to none. Of course it has aged but it has lost none of its appeal. An example of British television at it's very best.

just got clarence £4 from choices if your interested for my mum but i also can't wait to watch it. i loved this series yet as far as i know they didn't make anymore. there's so many tv progs where i loved them but they didn't make enough episodes, i.e. The Gnomes of Dulwich which the useless bbc deleted, whoever did this should be named and shamed for destroying our art heritage. why aren't the bbc etc showing these type of programmes again or is it the pc brigade judging what we can / can't watch as usual. there was so much grest tv from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's that is not being re-run, yet they re-run drivel from six months ago all the time. the british people should own the copyright to this not the bbc.

I am a really big fan of Porridge and Ronnie Barker. I am 40 years old and watched Porridge when I was a child and still think it holds up now as much as it did then. I think the website is brilliant!
